Champion rider Damien Oliver is set to partner Victorian Derby 4th placegetter Red Alto in the upcoming Queensland Derby, to be run on the 11th of June at Eagle Farm.

After finishing a gallant 4th, beaten a nose for 3rd in the Victoria Derby, the $108,000 earning maiden galloper's sole target has been the Queensland Derby. Trainer Paul Banks said: "This has been our long term aim and it's nice to know all things are falling into place, and we're delighted to have Australia's best jockey on board in the Grand Final."

After bypassing the Sydney autumn carnival and hatching a plan to get the son of High Chaparral to the Qld Derby, all has gone to plan except for running into firm tracks at every start along the way. The forecast looks good for connections of Red Alto with over 50mm of rain forecast this weekend on the new Eagle Farm track, which should ensure the track has plenty of give come Derby Day.

"We've struck firm tracks all the way along and we know that he is at his best when on rain-affected going. The forecast looks good for us so hopefully that combined with the new Eagle Farm track we could turn a few heads and break our maiden in style" Banks said.

"We head into this race with a fit horse that we know will relish the increase in distance, track condition and a rider that is one of the best in the world”.

Good luck to connections of Red Alto as we head towards the Grand Final on the 11th of June.
